NCGUB Launches Human Rights Yearbook 2006 in Bangkok, Thailand

Thursday, June 21 2007, 10:50 AM EDT
On the eve of the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, and the 52 nd anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter, the Human Rights Documentation Unit (HRDU) of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB) will release the 2006 Burma Human Rights Yearbook.

Invitation to the Launch of the Burma Human Rights Yearbook held in conjunction with Burma Issues

At a time when the SPDC has announced the resumption of the National Convention, the Human Rights Yearbook demonstrates that the systematic and widespread abuse of the population continues, and does so as a matter of policy designed to perpetuate military governance. In conjunction with the release, Burma Issues will screen its production "Shoot on Sight", a riveting video putting a human face on the ethnic minorities forced to flee ongoing military incursions into their areas. Additional raw footage shot in March 2007 inside the offensive area in northern Karen State in Burma will also be shown and be made available to media upon request.

Representatives of NCGUB and Burma Issues will introduce the report and video, make their recommendations for action and be on hand to answer any questions:

Dr. Sann Aung, Member of Parliament, Prime Minister's Office (East), NCGUB

Saw Taw Nay Htoo, Video Project Coordinator, Burma Issues

Additional representatives of HRDU, NCGUB and Burma Issues will also be on hand to give interviews at the FCCT following the launch. Copies of both productions will be available in electronic format and refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend this important event.
